About the Event
This warm, interactive session will explore what brought us to Montessori, who we want to become and how we might lift each other up to get there. Together, we will revisit what drew us to Montessori as new practitioners, what we hold most dear in our work with children, and the ways in which we might move forward. School teams are welcome to work together, and individuals are invited to use this time to find connection to other Montessorians who may help to sustain our vision for the future. This is designed as a space to think deeply, to affirm and seed community, and to set specific goals for ourselves as we close out one academic year and look to the future. If you are joining us from your classroom, please select a material from the Practical Life or Sensorial areas to bring with you. If you are joining from home, please prepare an "evening task" (making tomorrow's lunch, pouring a cup of tea, washing dishes in the sink, etc.) that you can have available during the session.
Presented by Catherine McTamaney:
An award-winning teacher, Associate Professor of the Practice and Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Department of Teaching and Learning, Professor McTamaney works primarily with undergraduates in Peabody's teacher licensure programs, focusing on the social and political context of public education and the integration of education and the arts. A three time graduate of Peabody College, Professor McTamaney has been at Vanderbilt for most of the last twenty five years.
In addition to her teaching at Vanderbilt, she is the author of two books on Montessori education and compassionate teaching, The Tao of Montessori and A Delicate Task, and Picasso in the Preschool, a teacher-centered text for integrating the arts in early childhood and elementary classroom. Dr. McTamaney is a noted Montessori lecturer across the US and abroad and was a member of the Social Computing Group at the MIT Media Lab, where she helped to establish the design principles of the Wildflower Schools project.
